When browsing for formulas & etc., UF shows thumbnails to help the user choose. Thumbnails would also be helpful when choosing a gradient from a .ugr file.

I can see gradient thumbnails, Jim. If you're seeing a list, right click and select View > Thumbnails.

I'm not following that. With a fractal open, F4 brings up the gradient. Then Ctrl-O brings up a list of .ugr files. Clicking on one of them brings up thumbnails of the gradients, but not how they would be applied to the fractal, which is what I was wanting.

This is a good point, it would be useful if it would be illustrated within the current layer just like with formulas.
