Switch Formula Plugins Part 3
Two Switch formulas deal specifically with embossing, a technique that was originally developed by Kerry Mitchell. This tutorial will cover Switch Trap Embossed. A specific embossing coloring formula is required. This tutorial will use Emboss with Textures, which I prefer because of the plugins and additional color functionality available. Kerry's Emboss ucl can also be used.
Open Object Formula Switch Lite (reb5.ufm) and select Switch Trap Embossed. Under the top line of Mandelbot Type the user should see the plugin name of Switch Trap Embossed, followed by several lines of embossing parameters.
Trap Shape
After the line with the range width parameter is the line for the trap shape plugin (called fractal formula). The default is Rose Range Lite. To the right is the browse button to select other shapes. Click the browse button to see the available list. There are 104 options. Following the trap shape name are the shape parameters.
Selected Iteration Parameters
Below the section with the trap shape parameters is a section which allows the user to be able to select a variety of different options for which iterations to use. Some trap options can give a very "busy" image, and skipping some iterations can give some artistic effects.
The last section is for the main fractal formula, with the usual default of Mandelbrot Julia Switch. Try using the switch mechanism to switch between the Mandelbrot and Julia forms. The same considerations described in Part 2 for the gradients also apply here. The user should experiment with the following:
- Light angle
- Contour size
- Emboss type
- Fractal formula for the trap shape
- Selected Iteration parameters
- Main fractal formula
Three sample uprs, MandelTrapEmbosss, JuliaTrapEmboss and Bones have been put in the parameter section.
