Oh that sounds annoying, but if it was stable before I'm sure you can get back to that state once the problem is identified.
Now, I'm just a user myself, not an expert but I have a few suggestions:
- Go to View > Preferences > Fractal tab and see if "Use Open GL Acceleration" is selected (box is ticked/checked). If it is then de-select it. Restart UF and see what happens - it could be a likely culprit.
- Less likely is the "Anti-aliasing" option on the Image tab of your fractal. If this is on it may be slowing down the preview calculation and maybe just proving to be too much work for your PC to handle when you are rapidly changing parameters and windows. You could try turning this off unless/until you really need a high quality preview. It may help.
- If your crashes are producing the option to send a crash report to the developer then perhaps you should do just that.
- I take it you have all your Windows updates installed and drivers sorted out. Maybe worth checking this??
Finally I will add that on occasion I too see UF throwing up a problem box when I've been working too fast and it hasn't quite caught up (especially when switching to a tab on Fractal Properties that hasn't been looked at for a while, for example). I usually wait for a few seconds for it to catch up, which more often than not it does. UF5 used to do this too so this is nothing new to me.
If any of this helps then great. If not then do wait awhile and see if Frederik pops up here to offer help. For technical support, you can also contact him (the author of Ultra Fractal) via email at info@ultrafractal.com.
Let us know if you get this sorted out!
