On the Hidden Dimension Galleries website there is a whole slew of challenges for UF5 that various fractal artists participated in some time ago. I was wondering if the params are available for these? There is mention that they would be displayed along with the artwork but I don't see them anywhere. While there is some outstanding work shown I am particularly interested in learning about certain images. Any help would be most appreciated.

(I already know that a bunch of older params are available on parkenet.org for previous versions of UF: http://www.parkenet.org/jp/ufchallenges.html)

Kathy, many of those challenge parameters can be found in Jan Vyvey's parameter archive, https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2AB35EAF574CA6CE!1034&authkey=!ALIZio6ZmgV1aAo&ithint=folder%2ctxt. I forget in which year's archive they fell, but they are there. Even older than that, there are parameters for many challenges that were conducted during the old mailing list days.

Kathy,

According to my collections, the challenges 1-9 are dating from december 1998 tot february 2001. I will put a zip file beside the cloud collections so you can download the upr's of the challenges.

This is useful to know, guys, thank you. I thought those challenge params were long gone! Hope you find them useful Kathy!

Some of my attempts are in there somewhere... they're the ones labelled "+CAM" on the end of the title. I still have my own parameters for all these somewhere. It's shocking to see I did these close to 10 years ago, though! Where has all that time gone? Yikes!! smile

Oh, an update to my earlier message!...

Jan, I don't think those are the same challenges that Kathy is after. They are too old to be UF5 params.

The challenges in question were exercises to do with plugins and such... when UF5 came along in 2008 Ron Barnett generously wrote a series of tutorials on his website; Hidden Dimensions (see Kathy's link above). To help us all fix these new techniques in our minds Ron devised ten challenges for us to complete - again these are listed on the website. All this would have been happening during the period of Sept-Dec 2008; the dates of my challenge files.

As I recall, those of us who participated sent in our challenge image params to the list. Any problems and further explanations were then discussed. Finally, Ron added thumbnails of all images to his challenge pages on his website. There was the promise too of parameters to go with them but as Kathy has noted these don't seem to be there.

I've had a very quick peek at your thumbnail files for 2008 and can't see my challenge images offhand yet I know you have faithfully collected anything you have found for many years so I probably haven't looked closely enough.

Anyway, I just wanted to update you to say that your kind offer of some challenge material from 2001 and before is not the same as Ron's challenges of 2008.

Joe, thank you very much for this link to the archived data, I have never gone on there before. Another valuable resource, indeed. I've heard of the UF Mailing List but it's not around anymore, is it?

Regards,
Kathy

Thanks very much for the clarification, Chris, much appreciated. I just wanted to get things straight with the dates. Even if I don't find the exact params I'm looking for I've learned a lot here about the online cloud archive which I haven't accessed yet.

Hello Jan,
Thank you very much for your response. I didn't realize that you saved all these param files to a cloud archive. Wow, that is a huge undertaking! I greatly value your expertise and time spent capturing all this wonderful fractal artwork. I will attempt to track down the files I am searching for.

Thanks again,
Kathy

Kathy,

The mailing list closed down a few years ago. Frederik introduced this forum to replace it.

I prefer forum communications, myself, so think it is a distinct improvement. Email lists are difficult to manage and following the ebb and flow of discussions and topics can be hard. Unfortunately there is not the membership and creative activity here that existed on the list but it may yet change. smile

Chris,

Thanks for the correction.
You are right, my collection is already 17 years old and is dating from a period with an older version of UF

I just did a quick look and found three param sets labeled Challenge6+CAM1, Challenge6+CAM2, and Challenge6+CAM3 in the November 2008 collection, so I suspect all the other challenge entries are there as well.
