Hi all,

I've been away from the forum for a while, so apologies if this has been covered already.

In UF6, when I'm rendering a job and back it up, the backup file (.urj) is HUGE compared with the same for UF5. For example, for the fractal below rendered at 4000 x 3000, when backed up at 25% complete, the UF5 .urj file is 603KB, while the UF6 .urj file is 187,612 KB.

Is this desired behavior? Did I miss a setting? Any help?

Kerry

Hi Kerry,

This is caused by changes to the render engine: it now uses a lot more memory while rendering which improves efficiency, especially with network calculations. The drawback is that this memory space needs to be saved when pausing/resuming a render job, and also when doing a backup.

For version 6.01, I'll reduce the memory usage a bit so it doesn't get too large, limiting the backup size to ~130 MB. I can't easily make it smaller without undoing the faster rendering that the large memory usage makes possible.

I tried it again with the same fractal I posted earlier in this thread. The .urj file was much smaller, even smaller than the uf5 version. And the backup process was much quicker. Thanks!
