I have some suggestions for consideration when UF next gets an update...

Image size options on the Image tab of Fractal Properties.

How about a check box or button to quickly change the dimensions of an image from portrait to landscape (and vice versa)?

e.g. change a setting of 600 x 900 to ---> 900 x 600 with a single click.

I frequently find myself on the image tab reversing the pixel counts in the width/height boxes and have often wished for a one-click control to quickly do the task for me.

There currently exists a box labelled "Maintain aspect ratio", perhaps another box below that, labelled "Reverse image dimensions" (or similar), could be added?

Also:
I have some favourite image sizes I use all the time. Would it be possible to have the option to save some of these to a list of presets for quickly changing the dimensions of an image?

e.g. ability to save a user defined list of image sizes like this to pick from:
450 x 900
600 x 900
800 x 500
800 x 800
960 x 600

Save favourite plugins to a Presets list

I would love to have the option to save favourite plugin objects, rather like how we can "Define" our own presets for colourings, transforms and so on at present. It would save a lot of time if we had some of our most used Trap Shapes, Transforms, Trap Color Mode plugins etc. available on a right-mouse-button drop down list.

I hope I have used the right terminology here. Would that sort of thing be possible??

Save History state or "snapshot" of a work in progress.

Currently the History list is limited to a fixed number of "undo" states. It would be great if we could quickly save the complete state of an image to the history list so that it was available to return to for as long as that image window remained open. In other words a fixed snapshot of the image that will not drop off the history list.

When things don't work out during image development it can be difficult to get back to the point where it all started to go wrong sometimes, unless you have remembered to stop and save different versions as you go along.

I think Photoshop has something like this but I'm not very familiar with that program or feature.

User options - a way to save or backup user preferences and configurations.

Not so important but something that would be really appreciated... a way of saving the user settings in UF's Options dialog. I've lost count of how many times I have installed and re-installed UF over the years. New computers, OS changes, disaster recovery scenarios... you name it, I've had it. And every time I install UF I have to re-configure all my settings and defaults, folder locations (I don't use default locations), font sizes and the like. It would be truly wonderful to either:
a) have a simple config file in the system folder that could be easily saved or backed up so that it could be restored for UF to find and use
-or-
b) an option within the program to "save" and perhaps "restore" these settings from a special file. This might be easier for new users to use.

PS. If I have overlooked such a file please point me to it! Otherwise it would be great to have something like this.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading! smile

Thanks for the feedback! Both plugin presets and history snapshots are on my wish list already; customizable image size presets are a good idea as well.

I'm not sure if saving user options would be widely used. However, if you feel comfortable with the Registry Editor in Windows, you could manually save and restore UF options. To do this, click Start and type 'regedit', Enter to open the Registry Editor. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ultra Fractal\5.0, right-click on this key in the tree view, and click Export from the pop-up menu. Now you can save this complete branch as a .reg file. To restore the settings, simply double-click the file.

Brilliant news about your wish list for UF, Frederik. I hope to see those in the next version! And I'm glad to hear you will consider image size presets too.

Thanks for the info on the Registry key. I don't have a problem with exporting/restoring keys so that's very good to know and all I wanted, really, and will prove very useful!

Cheers.

@ultrafractal

Warning before history starts dropping older entries!
Unlimited history by offloading older history to text/upr files in Temp folder?
Save and reload history files?
Save history to html format with small thumbnails?!

Currently the number of history states is limited to 50, but I could easily increase this. The problem is not saving the parameter data, but the associated image data which is much larger. However UF already drops older image data when needed to avoid using too much memory for the history list, so supporting more states shouldn't be an issue.
