If I'm reading this correctly then this may be a case of not having an Outside (most likely culprit) and/or Inside colouring algorithm loaded. If you have (None) on these tabs then the formula has nothing to work with so your fractal window remains blank.
Various options to get a formula to show itself:
- Check Outside and Inside tabs. Load something there, even if it's just a simple colouring like Basic. Make sure Repeat Gradient is checked as well. Still nothing? Then leave the black formula loaded and browse the colourings, looking for thumbnails that show something.
- Use the Explore tool to see if any parameter changes show something
- Reset the Location or zoom out. You may be too close to see the "big picture"
Hope this helps you out. Sometimes you have to wrestle the things into submission. If not then more detail and perhaps an example parameter set would help us to help you.
