Is there a way to customize the UF6 toolbar? I'd like to add a New Fractal button to it.

I agree that it would be nice to be able to customize, but I haven't figured out yet how to do it.

I don't believe any customization is possible.

I miss some of UF5's buttons too, in particular the link colour and opacity button... and the keyboard shortcut for that has gone too (used to be Ctrl-L). Implementation of this frequently used command is clumsy and inconvenient at present.

I can't tell you how many times already I've hit CTRL-R in the gradient window to replace the gradient, and gotten render to disk instead...
Also, when I set my default start-up behavior to 'Do nothing', which I've always used, now it takes me to the parameter browser instead.

You can't customize the toolbar at the moment. Note that there are only toolbars for the fractal window, browser, and formula editor, so you wouldn't be able to add the Link color/opacity command because that belongs to the gradient editor.

The gradient editor is now a tool window and if it's the active window (undocked), you can use various shortcuts. Right-click the gradient editor to access all its features like Link color/opacity and view the shortcuts. Replace is now simply Open with Ctrl+O as the shortcut.

I'll see if I can bring back the Ctrl+L shortcut, but if the gradient editor is docked, these won't work because Ctrl+O will work on the fractal window and will bring up the regular Open File dialog for opening fractals.

The "Do nothing" behavior doesn't work on Windows because there is no way for Ultra Fractal to appear without opening a window. So it defaults to opening the browser to select a formula instead. Maybe you would prefer to let it open the default parameter set? If you then open another fractal, this will replace the default window.

Hopefully this post clarifies some of the changes I've made. I really had to let go of the previous "MDI" design with a large main window that contains all other windows -- it feels very old and doesn't translate at all to the Mac version. Note that applications like MS Word don't use it either anymore.

I miss those buttons too! smile

Instead I've started keeping the Controls section of the gradient open, and using the Insert and Delete buttons and the "More" drop-down menu (click on the down arrow next to the Ins/Del buttons) for the other functions, or right-clicking on the gradient for the same menu.

Yes, I'm beginning to use the Insert button and menu options more, rather as you do. There's no other choice in many cases. I do like that Ins button, though, it's very handy!

To select all control points (old Ctrl-A) I've taken to click and drag to select all points, which sometimes misses one if it's tucked up on the end, but it's the only way at present, apart from the popup menu item.

As for the missing Ctrl-L function I've taken to using a macro-like function assigned to the middle button of my mouse that simulates the keystrokes necessary to toggle the Link function on and off. It's just wee bit quicker than calling up the menu and finding the item required.

To accomplish this feat I use a free (Windows) utility called X-Mouse Button Control . It's a bit fiddly to work out how to use it initially but once set up I find it really useful for for a handful of commonly used things in Windows, not just in UF. Two other side buttons on my mouse that normally control Forward/Backward navigation in a browser, for instance, I have programmed for use in UF to copy and paste complex Re/Im numbers. For me a great timesaver.

For anyone who has a Logitech rodent it was (still is???) possible to program buttons to perform any keystroke built in to UF with the Logitech software. I used that feature for a long time until my PC refused to work with any Logitech mouse one day so I had to switch brands and use X-Mouse instead. The advantage of my present system is that it is a bit more powerful/flexible than harnessing UF's existing keyboard shortcuts.

For anybody interested here is the website: X-Mouse site
Best used with a multi-button mouse!

Just thought I would pass this idea on for anybody who feels able enough to try it but your mileage may vary!

I'll bring back the Ctrl+L and Ctrl+A shortcuts, at least in a floating gradient editor. smile
