I literally downloaded the trial yesterday. I can't get past the very first paragraph that, in part, states:
"● Click Close on the File menu to close the fractal window. Now, the workspace is empty except for a
row of Tool Windows on the right side of
the screen."

when I follow this, the whole program shuts down. The only workaround I could do is instead of "Close" I select "NEW" but than I have 2 instances of the program, 1 that comes up when you start the program, the other with the fractal suggested in the quick start. Is this normal operation for the Mac?
Thanks

I wish I could be of help here but I use the Windows version of UF which is probably rather different. Here "Close" works as described. Personally I never use that command preferring instead to close the individual fractal window via the controls in the top corner of the fractal (minimise | maximise | close). I don't know if Macs have this function. If so then that would be one way of solving the problem.

Incidentally, Frederik, UF's author, does pop in here every now and again to answer questions but you may have to wait a few days. For more pressing technical problems it may be quicker to email him: info@ultrafractal.com

Thank you so much. Ive found some workarounds. I just use "New" then close the other window. Some of my problems of course may be I don't fully understand how things are supposed to work, or still not familiar with the whole program. Thanks so much, you help was appreciated !

You can close the fractal window on Mac but that leaves you only with the menu bar which is indeed confusing! I'll update the tutorial text.
